Growing Deeper: Our Wesleyan Roots

In January and February, at all three worship sites, we will be focusing on how our Methodist heritage roots us strongly in the richness of our Christian faith. If you are new to our church or to United Methodism, let us introduce you to the pioneers of our "brand" of Christianity: John Wesley was an 18th century British priest in the Church of England. While studying at Oxford University, Wesley, his brother Charles (the song writer) and other students formed a religious society. Dedicated to methodical religious life, they studied the Bible daily, fasted regularly, took Communion weekly, and ministered to the poor. Other students teased them calling them "Methodists," a name that stuck.
