Food Pantry

Ankeny First United Methodist Church is one of the 150 congregations that support DMARC - the Des Moines Area Religious Council. DMARC is an interfaith organization that exists to provide a common means of responding to basic human needs. One of DMARC's programs is the Emergency Food Pantry, which provides food at no cost to nine food pantry sites in the Des Moines area, including one site in Ankeny.

AFUMC sponsors regular food drives on behalf of the DMARC Emergency Food Pantry, including the following:

• Quarterly ‘Sack Sundays' - Sacks are distributed to the congregation on a specific Sunday; members are encouraged to return the sack on the following Sunday filled with food pantry staples.
• Souper Bowl Sunday - Annual event corresponding with the NFL Super Bowl. Cash donations and canned goods are collected.
